Most first timers feel a bit daunted about getting in a boat full of experienced paddlers. Don’t worry – we all started where you are now! We’ll buddy you up with an experienced paddler and guide you through some basic technique and boat safety protocols throughout the training session.

Like most of us you probably have questions. We’ll try and answer some of them here:

When do we train?

Generally, Subbies train Tuesday and Thursday nights and Sunday mornings. Off season training times can vary, so check our Events section on the Home page for upcoming training times and location map.

How long is a training session?

Subbies are usually on the water for about an hour of training. It’s best to arrive about 15 minutes beforehand to get organised and warmed up.

What do I need to bring?

We provide you a paddle and life jacket. Just bring a bottle of water for when you’re in the boat. If you get wet there are showers available so a change of clothes and a towel are a good idea.

What should I wear?

Be sure to wear comfortable clothes that you don’t mind getting wet (including footwear!). If it’s cold you might want a light outer layer. A hat and sunglasses are recommended and don’t forget the sunscreen!

What happens when the four week trial ends?

To continue paddling you need to join as a member. At Subsonix we aim to keep our fees as low as possible. In addition, we fundraise to help reduce costs to our members.
